How to make your ceiling fan remote control operated
Are you tired of walking up and down to change the settings on your ceiling fan? Then it’s time to add a Fan Remote & Receiver to your ceiling fan. This will change your normal ceiling fan into a remote controlled ceiling fan, giving you added convenience.
Let’s take a closer look at how you can achieve this and what you need to keep in mind.
How do ceiling fan receivers work?
Remote-controlled ceiling fans use a transmitter and receiver to transmit information from the remote control to power the fan. The transmission frequency between the transmitter (remote control) and the receiver (in the fan and connected to the source) determines how the fan will respond. The receiver and transmitter communicate via frequency. The remote control sends a signal at a certain frequency and the receiver picks up this signal using its antenna. The ceiling fan receiver then decodes the signal and sends the corresponding signal to the ceiling fan by allowing the current from the supply line to enter the appropriate output wire or preventing that current from passing through. The ceiling fan reacts and causes the blades to rotate or stop. If the fan has a light, the receiver can also send a signal to turn it on or off.
Can I add a receiver to any ceiling fan?
Remote controls for ceiling fans provide both functionality and convenience. While having to walk to a fan or wall switch every time you need to turn it on or off or adjust the speed doesn't exhaust you, in this age of modern conveniences, if we can make it easier, why not? If you already have a ceiling fan that wasn't equipped with a receiver, then you're in luck. Adding remote control to your ceiling fan is a pretty simple process. A Fan Remote & Receiver can be added to an existing ceiling fan. You can buy universal kits that work with a wide variety of makes/models. Kits include remote control and receiver. The receiver is connected to the circuit between the house and fan lines.
We stock the following receivers and remote kits:
Does a remote-controlled ceiling fan need a wall switch?
Remotely controlled fans can work thanks to two devices, a receiver and a transmitter. The receiver is located inside the fan housing; a bowl-shaped structure where the fan is attached to the ceiling. The transmitter is located inside the remote control.
All ceiling fans need a wall switch, regardless of it having a remote control or not. Thus, because the ceiling fan would already be connected to a wall switch, you don’t need an additional wall switch to operate the ceiling fan once you’ve added the remote control and receiver, as it gets connected to the fan itself.
What can I do if I lose the remote or if it breaks?
If you lost your remote control or it stopped working, no need to worry. Many universal remotes are compatible with multiple devices and you can easily replace your remote control. Find some replacement options from Brite Lighting & Electrical:
